The Republic of Ireland take on the classy Italians at Croke Park in Dublin on Saturday evening, knowing that anything other than a victory will put paid to any slim hopes they have of automatic promotion to next summer’s World Cup finals in South Africa. See how the two teams get on by joining us here at oleolefootball.com and enjoying the live streaming soccer in all its glory.

Although both the Republic and Italy remain undefeated in the group so far in the eight matches played, Italy find themselves four points ahead of the Irish on twenty points with two games remaining.

Whereas the Italian s have won six and drawn two of their games, the Irish have won four but drawn the other four and it is because of this tendency to snatch draws from the jaws of victory that the Irish now find themselves in the last chance saloon in terms of automatic qualification.

Both teams managed to win last time out – Italy beating Bulgaria 2-0 at home, while the Irish enjoyed a hard fought 2-1 win over the tough at home Cyprus in Nicosia. Italy know though, that even if they lose to Ireland on Saturday they have a home game against Cyprus in their last game whereas the Irish face Montenegro, again in Dublin.
